Our adoption staff serves the ten counties of the Milwaukee Archdiocese (and eleven counties of the Diocese of Madison, on a case-by-case basis). As you move through the adoption process, consider an agency that can help you navigate the challenging, and at times complicated, process of adoption.  We understand the uncertainty, anxiety, and excitement that you may be feeling as you seek to open your heart and your home to a child.

The Adoption Process

Catholic Charities is a fully licensed Child Placing Agency, and can help with the following types of adoption:

• Domestic Adoption
• Independent Adoption
• Interstate Adoption
• Step Parent Adoption
• Relative Adoption

We encourage open adoption, and believe that adoption is a lifelong process that involves the needs and interests of the child, the birth parents, and the adoptive parents. We serve families of all faiths.

Orientation sessions are provided without charge. Adoption fees vary based on services completed for each specific situation.

The domestic adoption process includes:

• Orientation: After requesting an orientation packet be mailed to you, attend an individual orientation meeting with one of our adoption workers, who will answer your questions and provide detailed information about our services
• Home Study: Home Studies consist of background checks, interviews, and a tour of your home.
• Portfolio Development: Once you have been approved for adoption, you will be asked to complete a portfolio consisting of pictures and stories on your family to share with expectant parent(s) who are selecting an adoptive family.
• Placement Process: When an expectant parent(s) goes through the selection process, they may request a face-to-face meeting with multiple families. Once a match is made, a plan will be developed for placement and adoption.

The Catholic Charities Adoption team works out of our Milwaukee location, but serves the 10 counties of southeast Wisconsin as well throughout the Diocese of Madison.
